In the past we have organised several external quality assessment studies. By now other, national and international, organisations have taken over this activity. For clinical microbiology we refer to the European QCMD (www.qcmd.org) while for instance ISS from Italy (www.iss.it) and Instand from Germany (www.instand.de) organise EQAS for blood screening laboratories. When we are involved we limit our role to the preparation of panels and when appropriate we perform analyses. Doing so we prevent to many small initiatives will compete with each other.
